Double 5K and my favorite Monday
The weekend of April 18-19 in support of the greatest marathon in the world and the best Monday of the year we ran two 5Ks. The Boston Marathon is a true holiday (Patriots day) in Mass. and has been a tradition for as long as I can recall. I remember watching the race as a kid and going to it as I got older. I can’t recall not ever seeing the marathon, either on TV or live.
I ran my first BAA (Boston Athletic Association) 5K in 2013. I had read that they finished on the Marathon finish line. As a runner and someone who loves this race(along with knowing I could never pull off 26.2) this was the perfect solution to be able to cross that line. It was an amazing race and there was lots of great energy and I will always remember it. Not only for what an awesome experience it was but what happened the next day which changed everything forever.
The 5K has now changed, the course is difference and the finish is different. Thought you still pass over THE finish line it is not the same and never will be. This year I had a running buddy in Doug and it was special to share this with him for the 1st time. I don’t think I will ever not run this race and I don’t think I will ever not cry at some point during the day.
The next day we ran for Watertown, the town next to the city that had also seen what evil can do in the following days for April 15th, 2013.
We then spent some time on the marathon route on Monday, something again I have always done and will always do, because it's the greatest marathon in the world and the best Monday of the year!
